Take off to the historic capital of Ayutthaya, visit the sacred Buddha statue at Maha That Temple in Phitsanulok and head for Sukhothai Historical Park in Central Thailand. Then you’ll move north to charming Lampang, the kingdom’s largest lake in Phayao, Chiang Rai’s Golden Triangle and the magnificent temples in Chiang Mai.

Day 1:
|
|
Bangkok-Ayutthaya-Lop Buri-Phitsanulok
Drive to Bang Pa-In Summer Palace, then climb aboard a river boat for a scenic cruise to Thailand’s former capital at Ayutthaya. You’ll visit Chaya Mongkol Temple and the ancient ruins of Chai Wattanaram Temple. Lop Buri is next, with a city tour in a pedalled rickshaw, then it’s off to Phitsanulok for the night. (L)

Day 2:

Phitsanulok-Sukhothai-Lampang
After a visit to the revered Buddha statue at Maha That Temple, you’ll drive to Sukhothai Historical Park to explore the ruins and see Sri Chum Temple. Have a nice lunch in Sri Satchanalai, then head off to Lampang where you’ll tour the charming city in a horse-drawn carriage. The Baan Sao Nak 100-year-old teakwood mansion is next, and the day ends at Wat Dan Tao. (B, L)

Day 3:

Lampang-Phayao-Chiang Rai
Head to Phayao and Thailand’s largest natural lake in the morning, then proceed to Chiang Rai for lunch. In the afternoon, travel to Chiang Saen and take a boat ride towards the Golden Triangle. Continue to Mae Sai, the kingdom’s northernmost town, then on the Chiang Rai for your overnight stay. (B, L)

Day 4:

Chiang Rai-Chiang Mai
Leave for Chiang Mai in the morning, and visit handicraft centres around the city. After lunch, your tour climbs 1,056 metres to the famous Doi Suthep Temple, tucked away in the mountain forests. (B, L)

Day 5:
|
|
Chiang Mai-Bangkok
Start the day at an elephant camp in Mae Sa, and watch these magnificent animals at work. Move to a wonderful orchid farm after lunch, before leaving for the Chiang Mai Airport, the flight to Bangkok and a hotel transfer. (B, L)
