The real outdoors person will jump at this excursion into the depths of Thailand’s northern frontier. Rugged terrain won’t stand in the way as you make your way along the Burmese border to hilltribe villages and venture by longtail-boat/elephant-back/4WD-journey to caves and hot springs.

Day 1:
|
|
A 4WD Landrover takes you to the Mae Sa elephant work camp, then on to an orchid farm. Proceed after lunch to a Hmong hilltribe village, then check-in to the Hmong Hilltribe Lodge and enjoy an evening of local entertainment and a BBQ dinner. (L, D)

Day 2:
|
|
Drive on dirt roads to Baan Pong Kwaw and over distant hills to visit a farmer’s house and a small temple. Continue driving through the forest to Pai while enjoying Huai Nam Dang National Park scenery along the way. Proceed to the resort. (B, L, D)

Day 3:
|
|
Head for Lahu hilltribes then continue to Lod Cave. After lunch, visit a Karen village where women weave their clothes, before going to the resort in Mae Hong Son. (B, L, D)

Day 4:
|
|
Take a 45-minute trek by elephant back through the forest and across the Pai River. A longtail boat motors you upriver to a suspension bridge and a 4WD ride to Pha Sua Waterfall for a basket lunch. The afternoon is spent visiting hilltibes, including the longneck Padong, before returning to the resort. (B, L, D)

Day 5:
|
|
Drive to a mountain-top temple, and enjoy the beautiful view over Mae Hong Son. Visit Burmese style temples including Wat Jong Klang, built by the Shan people over 200 years ago. You’ll get a peek at the ancient artefacts inside before heading back to your Chiang Mai hotel, with a stop for lunch along the way. (B, L)
