Tour the traditional city of Luang Prabang and wonder at her marvelous temples. Cruise the mighty Mekong River, picnic beside the Khuangxi waterfalls and shop in the same open air markets as the locals.

Itinerary

Day 1:

Vientiane
After arriving in Vientiane, you’ll tour the temples of Sisaket and Ho Phra Keo before heading for the much-photographed Patousay victory gate and the famous landmark of That Luang Stupa. (L, D)

 

Day 2:

Vientiane – Luang Prabang
After breakfast, and a visit to the morning market (time permitting), fly to the beautiful northern city of Luang Prabang. Magical and charming, this most traditional of Asian cities is an historical treasure trove. Visit Wat Visoun and Wat Aham, climb Phousi Hill and watch the sunset over the Mekong River from Wat Siphouthabath. (B, L, D)

 

Day 3:

Luang Prabang – Pak Ou – Luang Prabang
Visit the classic Lao temple of Wat Xieng Thong, before boarding a traditional wooden riverboat for a trip up the Mekong River to the caves of Oak Ou where you’ll find some wonderful antique Buddha images. After a picnic lunch enjoy a trip to the weaving village of Ban Phanom. (B, L, D)

 

Day 4:

Luang Prabang – Khuangxi – Luang Prabang
The highlight of the morning is a trip to the Khuangxi waterfalls, with a side trip to the Khmu village of Ban Thapaene. On the return journey visit the cotton producing village of Ban Xom and the paper-making village of Xang Khong. (B, L, D)

 

Day 5:

Luang Prabang
After breakfast you’ll visit the fabulous National Museum (a former royal palace), which is home to a host of magnificent royal artifacts, including family photos, musical instruments and even gifts given by the nobility of other countries. Transfer to the airport for your onward flight. (B)
