Travelling Around Thailand

By Air
The quickest way to travel upcountry is to fly.  THAI offers service to 20 cities with, for example, 11 flights each day to Phuket.  Save money with THAI’s Amazing Thailand Promotional Fare      programme that lets you fly to any three Thai cities for a bargain price.

Plan your trip by checking the special domestic Faresand pages.  Visit our Routenet page for information on cities served.

Trains
The State Railways of Thailand operates trains to key Northern, Northeastern, and Southern points with services ranging from Third Class day cars to First Class sleepersw; soon all classes will be air-conditioned.  All have restaurant cars.  Trains are an excellent way to see the countryside and meet Thais.

Buses
Fan-cooled, air-conditioned, and VIP sleeper buses travel the length of the country.  Three terminals in
Bangkok serve all provinces with frequent departures

Rental Cars
In all three cities, Avis, Hertz, and local agencies offer late model cars—Chiang Mai and Phuket rent four-wheel drive jeeps—with and without drivers and with insurance coverage.  There are also several private companies.  Rates are generally higher than in
Europe or North America because of high customs duties on vehicles.
