Loi Krathong is one of the most well-known festivals in Thailand which is held every year on the full moon night of the twelfth lunar month. Thai people would float their “Krathong”, a small boat like basket decorated with Thai flowers and topped with a candle and incenses, on a river, canal, or a pond, making a wish as they do so. This festival is believed to be a way of paying respect or asking for forgiveness to the River Spirit known as Pra Mae Khongkha. Once the candle is lit and Krathong is floated on the water, you will experience the remarkable sight of your lifetime.

In regard to the mourning period for His Majesty the Late King Bhumibol Adulyadej, this year’s festival will be taking place as usual. Visitors can still enjoy this beautiful tradition although it may be changed or toned down for appropriateness.
