Government of Japan decided on the new measurements for border enforcement (Quarantine enforcement and suspension of Business Track and Residence Track)

Japanese government is fortifying border controls and quarantine measures for people entering Japan in order to prevent a steep rebound in Covid19 infections and the spread of its muted strains.

Followings are temporarily being suspended to prevent the spread of Covid19;
- new entry for foreign nationals from all countries and regions
- special measures when returning or re-entering Japan from a short-term business trip to all countries and regions
- framework of Business Track and Residence Track,

As a strengthened border measure, for the time being from March 19, 2021, all travelers including Japanese nationals have to submit a certificate of negative test result conducted within 72 hours (from the sampling time to departure time of the flight) when entering Japan.  Those who do not submit a certificate of negative test result will be rejected to board by airline companies.

In addition, untill further notice, all those who enter, re-enter or return to Japan (including Japanese nationals) are also subject to conducting of Covid19 test upon arrival no matter whether arriving from the countries/regions designated as an area subject to denial of permission to enter Japan or not.  All Japanese nationals and foreign nationals with the status of residence are also required to submit the Written Pledge in which travelers pledge to remain at home (or etc.) for 14days after arrival, not to use public transportation, to install some smartphone applications to report your locations/health conditions, and so forth.

Besides, additional border enforcement measures are being introduced for those who enter, re-enter or return to Japan from countries/regions with community transmission of Covid19 variants, and from countries/regions whose authorities have announced the confirmation of domestic infection of the new variants.  The measures include self-quarantine for 3 days at a location designated by the quarantine station chief (before self-quarantine at home), etc.
