Today (31 August 2016), Thai Airways International Public Company Limited (THAI) arranged a ceremony to welcome its first Airbus A350 XWB upon touchdown at Suvarnabhumi Airport in Bangkok, Thailand. Mr. Areepong Bhoocha-oom, THAI Chairman of the Board of Directors, was present to welcome THAI’s first Airbus A350 XWB, along with Mr. Charamporn Jotikasthira, THAI President, Mr. Jean Francois Laval, Executive Vice President, Sales, Southeast Asia, Airbus, Mr. Robert Lamoureux, Senior Vice President and Head of Marketing, Asia Pacific, CIT Group Inc., Mr. Ewen McDonald, Senior Vice President, Asia Pacific, Rolls-Royce, and other guests of honor.
Mr. Charamporn Jotikasthira, THAI President, said that the Company has ordered 12 Airbus A350 XWB aircraft, with four firm orders and eight aircraft leases. The Airbus A350 XWB is a mid-size long range commercial aircraft, is currently the most technologically advanced aircraft in the world as well as the most modern and efficient aircraft, which succeeds in meeting customers’ expectations. The aircraft will be operated on intercontinental flights in order to improve fleet efficiency, replacing decommissioned aircraft and supporting future company growth as well as facilitating routes with high passenger demand. THAI will receive delivery of its first Airbus A350 XWB on 31 August 2016 at the Airbus Delivery Center in Toulouse, France.
THAI’s Airbus A350 XWB is royally bestowed the name “Wichian Buri” and is equipped with Rolls-Royce Trent XWB engines. Seventy percent of the A350 XWB is made of weight-efficient airframe, consisting of advanced composite materials such as titanium and advanced aluminum as well as an all-new Carbon Fiber Reinforced Plastic fuselage which results in lower fuel burn as well as less maintenance. The A350 XWB is powered with Rolls-Royce Trent XWB engines that are the newest, fuel efficient engines, with 25 percent less carbon dioxide emissions and substantial reduction to maintenance costs.
The Airbus A350 XWB was designed in Thai contemporary design and is equipped with ambient LED based mood lighting complete with 16.7 million colors. The spacious overhead area was designed to improve inflight comfort, with bigger overhead stowage compartments, larger panoramic windows, with more space in all classes of service. Business Class passengers enjoy wider, more comfortable seats and with more leg room for Economy Class passengers than on any other aircraft of similar type. There are 32 seats in Royal Silk Class, which was designed for maximum Business Class passenger comfort, by placing a distance of 41-46 inches between seat rows. The seat width is 21 inches, with 180 degree recline, giving passengers easy access to entry and exit from their respective seats without disturbing other passengers. Each seat is fully equipped with a 16 inch touchscreen that can connect to Wi-Fi, communication devices, and electrical plugs. Economy Class
There are 289 seats in Economy Class, with a seat pitch of 32 inches and18 inch seat width. Each seat is equipped with an 11 inch touchscreen that can connect to Wi-Fi, communication devices, and electrical plugs.
THAI will operate the Airbus A350 XWB on the route Bangkok-Melbourne beginning in September 2016. Currently, THAI has 23 Airbus aircraft in its fleet, including newly acquired aircraft.
