Climate change issues are becoming more severe in their impact on the environment, and one of the main driving forces producing gas emissions released by all sectors' operations.
THAI realizes the impact that has occurred, and the necessity of cooperation in reducing gas emissions. It, therefore, aims to achieve this through the emissions testing (TGO’s Carbon Footprint for Organization) certification scheme. Therefore, the company has participated and developed an organizational carbon footprint with the Greenhouse Gas Management Organization in collaboration with the business plan on greenhouse gas emissions for airlines in Asia. This is to be part of its efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and achieve the goal of Net Zero emissions by 2050.

Thai Airways has developed and replaced its in-flight equipment to be more eco-friendly, such as food containers made from biodegradable materials. These technologies will be projected to economy class passengers as a complimentary gift, allowing them to take them home and reuse them.
Thai Airways places significant importance on reducing waste by reprocessing natural materials instead of discarding these materials to help convert future items into the production process. The company has implemented various projects to support this initiative, for example, the "Tumbler Glass Product from Recycled Stainless Steel" project.
Thai Airways provides a pre-selected meal service for business class passengers and economy class passengers who hold full-fare international tickets. This service allows eligible passengers to choose their meals in advance from a set menu.
In addition, first-class passengers have access to the à la carte inflight meal service. This service offers an expanded selection of meal options, including fine menu choices beyond the standard menu available for other passengers.
These services ensure a more personalized dining experience for the class travelers.

As a result, THAI has continued to create greater awareness and understanding of the importance of environmental conservation through organized activities and projects “THAI Returns Life to the Land.”
Long-Term Goal
Efficient Fleet Planning: THAI has implemented its fleet strategy to reduce both the number and types of aircraft while increasing efficiency and reducing operational costs. This strategy aligns with the current aircraft industry situation, global aviation industry trends, and THAI’s marketing plan.
On December 13, 2019, Thai Airways collaborated with PTT Oil and Retail Business Public Company Limited in promoting the carbon offset initiative with sustainable aviation fuels and a carbon offset program. Thai Airlines piloted this project on flights from Bangkok to Stockholm, and its first test flights on December 13 were completed with the use of sustainable aviation fuels.
Additionally, it can be blended with current fossil fuels at an increasingly commercial-scale standard under the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) and the European Fuel Transport Association.
Thai Airlines also supports the European Union’s framework for progressively increasing SAF blending ratios in future batch imports from European suppliers.

The Route Optimization project was initiated and implemented to reduce flight operation costs, specifically fuel expenses and carbon footprints. The Thai Airways Flight Planning System (TAFS) is used as a tool to prepare supporting flight documents for pilots, ensuring system safety and reducing fuel consumption. The system is utilized for flight planning by the Flight Dispatch Department.
Thai Airways has placed special emphasis on fuel efficiency while minimizing aircraft emissions. Many strategic measures were established to reduce energy consumption, which are to be implemented to enhance fuel flight optimization such as emission neutral flight on Thai Airlines.
This project has a net final future impact on Thai Airlines, and in 2023, the company was able to reduce aircraft fuel consumption by approximately 171,339 tons of CO2.

In relation to policies, the 39th General Assembly of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) decided to implement the Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Scheme for International Aviation (CORSIA) to support the airline industry in reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Thai Airlines has submitted the CORSIA Annual Emissions Report to ICAO. The Company has completed the 2023 CORSIA Annual Emission Report and submitted it for ICAO's approval and review.
In 2022, Thai Airways conducted 25,623 international flights eligible for offsetting requirements, generating a total of 3,316,814.8 tonnes of CO2 emissions, which translates to a reduction of 379,848.3 tonnes.
Additionally, the company has engaged with EU ETS requirements and submitted the carbon dioxide emissions report and carbon credits for CO2 into the European Emissions Trading Authority (ETS), a regulatory body, in March and April 2024, in accordance with the European Union Emissions Trading System (EU ETS) requirements.
